How Accumulators Work

What is an Accumulator?

An accumulator (or acca) combines multiple selections into one bet. All selections must win for the bet to pay out. The winnings from each selection roll onto the next, multiplying the potential return — but one loss means the entire bet loses.

How Odds Are Calculated

Total acca odds are found by multiplying all decimal odds together. For example, three selections at 2.00, 2.50 and 3.00 give combined odds of 2.00 × 2.50 × 3.00 = 15.00. A £10 stake would return £150 (£140 profit).

Win Probability

The probability of an acca winning decreases with every selection added. Each selection's implied probability is multiplied together. Three 50% selections give a combined probability of 0.5 × 0.5 × 0.5 = 12.5%. Most accas have a very low true probability of winning.

Bookmaker Margin on Accas

The bookmaker's margin compounds with each leg added. If each leg has a 5% margin, a 5-fold acca has roughly a 25% combined margin. This is why accas are highly profitable for bookmakers — and why value hunting on individual legs matters more as selections increase.
